Level of Difficulty:

Due to its composition of varzea, or seasonally flooded forest, this reserve holds exceptional significance in the Peruvian Amazon.

Abounding with lakes, lagoons, swamps, and aguajales (swamps featuring the unique moriche palm/buruti nut – Mauritia flexuosa), it stands as a diverse ecosystem. Within its bounds, an extensive array of flora and fauna thrives, including species at risk of extinction, such as the Black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger), Puma (Felis concolor), River Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), Jaguar (Panthera onca), Manatí (Trichechus inunguis), and Paiche/Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas).

Notably, this reserve is home to up to 13 species of primates, further highlighting its ecological richness in the Peruvian Amazon.
