Program focused on the search for wildlife and survival training in one of the most remote and inhospitable regions of the Amazon jungle. Our team is composed by indigenous experts in wildlife and survival techniques to survive in the jungle.

This area is rich in biodiversity, we have records of giant anacondas, jaguars, and thirteen different species of primates. This itinerary is an ideal way to combine nature and survival.

Includes

  • Transfer from Iquitos Airport.
  • Land and river transportations included in the itinerary.
  • Air ticket from Iquitos/Angamos/Iquitos.
  • Slow boat type peke-peke.
  • All meals provided for duration of trip.
  • Purified water.
  • Permit from SERNANP (National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the Peruvian State).
  • Permission to the Matsés National Reserve and Native Community.
  • Indigenous wildlife and survival experts and Amazon Explorer’s tour leader.
  • Materials: Mosquito nets and bed sheets.
  • Participants must bring their own light camping mat.

Important

  • You must arrive in Iquitos a day before the starting date.
  • The air transportation used for this expedition is subject to the dates established by the Peruvian Air Force. The flight may be postponed due to climatic conditions.
  • We suggest having additional days at the end of the itinerary. In the event that the flight is suspended, the days lost can be recovered.
  • In the event that the flight used in the expeditions is postponed, Amazon Explorer will not take charge of your stay in the city of Iquitos, nor will you receive any type of refund for the days lost.
  • Clay licks: Only from June to November, when the rivers are low.
  • Wildlife is unpredictable, sightings are not guaranteed, but by going to a remote area and with wildlife records in the area, you maximize the chance of finding.
  • This expedition is open to highly motivated participants with a strong capacity for adaptation and who are in good physical and mental condition.
  • You must reserve a minimum of 30 days in advance.

Itinerary

Day 1
  • Departure by a light aircraf from the Air Force Military Base or Iquitos airport.
  • One-hour flight to the town of Clonia Angamos located on the border with Brazil.
  • Meeting with indigenous experts in wildlife and survival techniques.
  • Overnight in Angamos.
Day 2
  • Organization of supplies and logistics before starting navigation.
  • Motorboat into one of the least explored areas of the Amazon rainforest.
  • Bird watching.
  • Arrive to a native community.
  • Overnight accommodations in a tribal community.
Day 3-12
  •  Motorboat into the depths of the virgin jungle.
  • Build camp.
  • Fish for piranhas (Serrasalmus nattereri) and other species.
  • Hike through primary jungle in search of wildlife.
  • Night exploration in search of species.
  • Drink water from forest vines “Soga de agua”.
  • Explore clay licks “Collpas” (deposits of clay containing mineral salts where a large number and variety of animals congregate).
  • Search and identification of traces and footprints.

Survival Activities:

  • Proper use of a machete.
  • Build shelters.
  • Navigate by using natural signs.
  • Techniques to find food and water.
  • Make a campfire.
  • Improvise fishing techniques.
  • Identify and use flora for survival purposes.
  • Build individual flotation devices to float down river.
  • Overnight in the jungle.
Day 13
  •  Return by motor boat to the native community.
  • Overnight in native community.
Day 14
  •  Return by motor boat to Colonia Angamos.
  • Overnight in Angamos Village.
Day 15
  • Departure by light aircraft from Colonia Angamos to Iquitos.
  • Arrive in Iquitos.
