Expedition Details

• Trekking Trial: 32 miles (50 km)
• Dugout Canoes Navigation: 43 miles (70 km)

Includes

• Transfer from Iquitos Airport.
• Land and river transportations included in the itinerary.
• Public speedboat from Iquitos-Nauta to Requena.
• Light aircraft from Angamos to Iquitos.
• Slow boat type peke-peke.
• Permission from SERNANP (National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the Peruvian State).
• Permission from the communities of the Blanco River.
• Expert indigenous trackers and Amazon Explorer’s tour leader.
• First aid kit, includes antivenom serum.
• Note: Participants must bring their own camping gear.

Important

• You must arrive in Iquitos a day before the starting date.
• The starting date is determined by public river transport operators (speedboat company).
• Their speedboats usually leave from Iquitos early in the morning.
• The air transportation used for this expedition is subject to the dates established by the Peruvian Air Force. The flight may be postponed due to climatic conditions.
• We suggest having additional days at the end of the itinerary.
• In the event that the return flight used during the expedition is postponed, Amazon Explorer cannot refund missed program days. We appreciate your understanding, as these circumstances are beyond our control.
• Wildlife is unpredictable, sightings are not guaranteed, but exploring a remote area maximizes the possibility.
• Clay licks: Only from June to November, when the rivers are low.
• This expedition is open to highly motivated participants with a strong capacity for adaptation and who are in good physical and mental condition.
• During these expeditions, in totally unexplored areas, it may be necessary to change the activities and/or the route due to unforeseen situations.
• These expeditions are extreme and high risky due to the inaccessible terrain and possible encounters with uncontacted natives.
• Book with a minimum of 60 days in advanced.
• LIMITED SPACES: 6 participants.

Day 1-3

• From Iquitos to the city of Requena, you go by public speedboat (3 h).
• You meet with our expert indigenous trackers who accompany you on this expedition.
• Navigate by motorboat trip to an unexplored area of the Amazon rainforest.
• Stay overnight in a typical house of a local village.

Day 4-13

• Commence a challenging 32 miles (50 km) trek in pursuit of the river’s source.
• Construct shelters at various points throughout the jungle.
• As trek through the jungle, actively seek out the region’s wildlife.
• Sleep deep in the jungle, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day 14-32

• Reach the river’s source deep within the heart of the jungle.
• Build dugout canoes on the river bank.
• Go downstream for 43 miles (70 km).
• Follow by foot where navigation is not possible

During this stage you do the following:

• Construction of camps on the river banks.
• Exploration in the search of animals in the day and night.
• Track wildlife in Collpas (clay area containing mineral salts, where a large number and variety of animals congregate to ingest these salts).
• Search for jaguars’ tracks and footprints.
• Search for anacondas in lagoons and Aguajales (swamps).
• Get food provided by the jungle.
• Spend the nights surrounded by the wilderness of the deep jungle.

Day 33

• Arrive at a native community.
• Spend the night in a traditional house within the native community.

Day 34

• Navigate by motorboat to the village of Colonia Angamos (8 h).
• Stay overnight in Angamos.

 Day 35

• Conclude your adventure with a plane departure from Angamos to Iquitos.
• Arrival in Iquitos.
