Amazon Trek

Designed for enthusiasts of long-distance trekking, this itinerary promises a unique experience deep within the jungle. Throughout the journey, you face demanding physical challenges while learning from our expert indigenous guides, gaining profound insight into the rich knowledge of the Amazon.

The trek covers an impressive 100 kilometers (62 miles), with a 50-kilometer outward journey and a strenuous return trip along the same route. More than a physical test, this itinerary represents a true immersion in the jungle, where you not only face the challenges of the terrain but also participate in an enriching cultural exchange with our indigenous guides, who have inhabited and preserved the Amazon for generations.

Includes

• Transfer from Iquitos Airport.
• Land transportation throughout the itinerary.
• Round-trip public river transport by speedboat between Nauta and Requena.
• Slow peke-peke motorboat (with stationary motor).
• Camp meals.
• Permit from SERNANP (National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the Peruvian Government).
• Authorization from the Supreme Matsés Chief to enter their territory.
• Expert indigenous wildlife trackers and Amazon Explorer’s lead guide.
• Equipment: mosquito net and bed sheet.

Each Participant should bring

• Light camping mat.
• Personal water Filter for hiking.
• Rubber boots.

Important

• You must arrive in Iquitos at least one day prior to the start date of the program.
• The starting time will depend on the schedule set by the river transport operators coordinating the departures of speedboats (public boats with outboard motors).
• These boats typically depart from Iquitos twice a day: once in the early morning and once at midday.
• Responsibility for Additional Expenses: Amazon Explorer shall not be held responsible for any additional expenses arising from circumstances beyond our control.
• Each traveler is responsible for carrying their own backpack during the trek.
• Water is collected directly from streams, so each traveler must bring and use their own personal water filter to ensure water quality throughout the trek.
• Clay Licks (Collpas): These are only accessible from June to November, when river levels are low.
• Wildlife Sightings: Wildlife behavior is unpredictable, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, exploring remote areas significantly increases the likelihood of an encounter.
• This expedition is open to highly motivated participants with strong adaptability and good physical and mental fitness.
• Reservations must be made at least 60 days in advance.
