Journey through the Amazon: Capturing Unexplored Beauty with Photographer York Hovest
The photographer York Hovest was on the road in South America for a hundred days. The mighty Amazon river runs through the largest tropical rainforest area in the world, many parts of which are almost unexplored.
Only a few indigenous peoples still live in them in a very traditional way. Together with shamans, tribal elders and their families, York Hovest embarks on a journey through the Amazon basin to capture the beauty of the rainforest and its inhabitants.
York is a renowned photographer from Germany, traveling around the world looking for stories, adventures and inspiring destinations.
The Amazon Explorer team organized and brought National Geographic Photographer to Matsés territory. He was very interested in the conservation of nature and native people of the Amazon during this 15-day expedition in the middle of the jungle.
The Amazon is twice the size of India. It is the largest remaining tropical rainforest in the world, and houses at least 10% of the world’s biodiversity. The Amazon river is the world’s longest with 7062 km. It accounts for 15% of the world’s total river discharge into the oceans, it houses the largest number of freshwater fish species in the world.
